Developed between 1935 and 1960, Janmar is a neighborhood in North Dallas. The developer named the community Janmar after the names of his daughters, Janet and Margaret. Residents appreciate the unique feel of the neighborhood. Local wildlife is quite common including coyotes, possums, owls and hawks.
The Janmar Dallas neighborhood is bounded by Forest Lane to the north (not including El Hara Circle), Mason Dells & Baxtershire Drives to the south, Hillcrest Ave to the west and a portion of White Rock Creek to the east.
The community contains roughly 200 homes that have an average home price north of $700,000. Many of the homes are 1950s and 1960s style ranches, though there are a few teardowns coupled with new construction.
The Round House is a historic home located in Janmar on Baxtershire street. It opened in 1962 and includes 1960s era features such as bamboo, rattan, and an indoor pool. The original steel dome situated over the circular motor court helped give the historic home its name.
